HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR SPRING SEMESTER

VOLUNTEER HOST FAMILIES are needed to host international teen ambassadors from over 40 countries like Germany, Ecuador, Italy, Japan, Brazil, China and Belgium for the upcoming 2008-2009 spring semester. Host families will provide a bed, meals, as well as friendship, understanding, and a genuine desire to share the American way of life with a youngster from overseas. All students speak English, are covered by medical insurance, have spending money for their personal expenses, and hope to arrive early AUGUST for enrollment in their new high school.

The young ambassadors are between the ages of 15 and 18, and will attend the high school closest to their host family’s home. Families are able to review student applications and select the student they feel will best match their family. The SHARE! High School Exchange Program is sponsored by ERDT, a non-profit educational foundation. For more information, please call Yvette at the SHARE! Southwest Office at 800-941-3738 or visit us at http://www.sharesouthwest.org.

Teachers/Tutors needed in Kenya (Volunteer in Africa)

This volunteer project aims to support Mshimba High School in Coast province, Taita Taveta District, Kenya. The mission of the School is to provide quality education to the students for a better tomorrow and their goal is to make the institution a centre of academic excellence. The School's motto is "Education for Progress".

Mshimba High School was started in 1989 by the community and later on the Government took over. The school is managed by a board of governors. It is a mixed school for boys and girls, with boarding facilities for boys only. There are 4 classes from grade 1 to 4. The school has 140 students in total. The number of staff is 8 teachers and 5 non-teaching staff. The school offers 11 subjects: Math, English, Kiswahili, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, History, Geography, Business Studies and Computer (IT).

Volunteer work: Volunteers' major duties include:
• Teaching the pupils English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and IT;
• Running extra curriculum activities such as Drama, Theater, Music, environmental activities;
• Teaching Sports;
The volunteers will be working from Monday to Saturday, Monday to Friday - 5 hours a day and Saturday - 3 hours.

Special requirements: English, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Physical Education/Sports and Biology teachers are needed. Knowledge and experience in teaching the aforementioned subjects is mandatory. Information Technology (IT) teachers are highly required, but the school has only one computer. This is not sufficient to teach the whole class, but the school is in the process of getting more computers.
We have an open policy and applicants with other ideas to share are also welcome to apply and will be considered.
Volunteers need to contribute/initiate ideas and by that would be promoting the growth of the School. This is an opportunity for the volunteers to work at a community/grassroot level in capacity building and training in self-sustainability.

Duration of the project: The schools in Kenya run from January to April, from May to August and from September to November. The time frame is open.

Age range: 19 and over

My sister has been sick for almost 2 years now with a rare stomach illness. We live in Little Rock, AR, but she is being treated by doctors at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Due to the length and tseverity of her illness, her medical bills are piling up, and my parents resources are very limited due to mom losing her job last year. She and my mom have been making the 6 hour trip to Jackson very frequently, and hotels are getting very expensive. Essentially I am looking for a kind soul who might know of a resource or place where my mom and sister could stay when they come to Jackson for doctors appointments. They are actually coming in to town tomorrow, and my sister is so sick that they do not know if she will need to be admitted to the hospital. We are a good family that has a lot of love but has come in to some bad luck. Please let me know if you or someone else you know can help my family. Thank you, and God bless.

HELP DEPRATLY NEEDED (PEARL)

My name is Sarah McWhorter, I am the daughter of Joe McWhorter, the man that was killed in the fire in Pearl on Tuesday. My daddy died in my home and the incident is going to follow me forever. I am still in the process of trying to grieve but it is hindered because of all of the other obstacles in my mother and my way. When this fire broke out it took more than just my daddy with him, it took my whole life. As of now, my mother and I are homeless, we have no clothes, basic needs for everyday life. He had just got paid but all of his disability had gone to paying household bills in a house we cant live in at the moment. The main room that took most damage was my parents bed room, its AWFUL, the rest of the house seems to be ok. I am not even sure about the insurance, so i dont know what we are going to do. We dont have anyone we know that can help us really at all. The Red Cross put us up for 3 days at a local motel but that ends Sunday morning, then its the streets, we dont have 2 dimes to rub together. I also have to find a home for a 1 year old Ragdoll breed cat......and a home for 2 chiuahuas. What I am asking for is anything. Help trying to get the house habitable, help with clothing, food, everyday things, I cant even cremate my father. I will even work doing whatever you need doing to make enough to pay for a few nights at the motel so me and my mommy dont end up on the street. The is no on at all that can take us in cause we know nobody. We are trustworthy christian people who have been put in this situation and no idea how to climb out of it. Any help at all would be so appreciated. Thank you for reading

Welcome to Adventure Scouts USA the only fully nondiscriminatory Scout Program in the United States.

We feature three Scout Programs: Discovery Scouts, for 2-4 year olds, Rising Star Scouts for 5-10 year olds and North Star Scouts for 11-18 year olds.

Our Scout Programs welcome participation from two kinds of Scouts: boys and girls! Our Scout Programs are co-ed.

A large part of our Scout Programs is inspiration. In fact, we offer an award called the Luminary Award, which Scouts can earn by being an inspiration to their teammates.

Likewise, we want to inspire our volunteers and we are inspired by them and their dedication.

Find out how you too can inspire our Scouts! It doesn't matter if you have a lot of time to volunteer or a little or if you would prefer to help us in another way, we look forward to sharing more!
